Special Note: New Leaders for New Schools will be exhibiting and presenting at this conference!
The 2008 National Charter Schools Conference (NCSC) is sponsored by the National Alliance for Public Charter Schools (NAPCS). Through its diverse board and broadly representative committees, the NAPCS develops sound, coherent policies that support high-quality public education options for families who need them the most. Key priorities include lifting arbitrary "caps" on charter growth, closing the finance gap between charters and other public schools, and updating the federal Charter Schools Program to spur a new era of charter achievement. To increase public support and political understanding of charter schools, the Alliance proactively delivers the message of accountability and results through print, broadcast, and online media; Issue Briefs and other publications; and conferences such as last summer's Chartering 2.0 leadership summit.
The only national gathering of the entire charter school community, it is expected that over 3,000 movers and shakers will be attending the 2008 NCSC Annual Conference, including teachers, principals, policymakers, state leaders, funders, advocates, researchers...inspired professionals from every branch of the expanding charter-school family. "Still We Rise: Achieving Academic Excellence at Scale" is the conference theme, reflecting the growth of quality public charter schools across America. The theme has special resonance in New Orleans, which boasts the nation's largest percentage of public charter school enrollment. New Orleans' charter schools are not only spurring a new dawn of academic excellence, but are also providing a great boost to the growth and recovery of the Crescent City.
