New Leaders for New Schools received the 2008 NewSchools Venture Fund "Organization of the Year" Award, announced during the annual NewSchools Summit in Washington DC. The summit brings together education leaders committed to the transformation of public education for students in underserved communities. This award recognizes New Leaders for New School's outstanding work and dedication to academic excellence in urban public schools and applauds the exceptional efforts of each member of the New Leaders team.

New Leaders for New Schools received the highest ranking of all 25 organizations for this year's awards. Selected as one of the top 20 groups overall, and one of six with the highest mark in the "Social Impact" category. In addition, New Leaders principal Adrian Kirk and his school Monarch Academy were highlighted in the profile of another award recipient, Aspire Public Schools.
